National Beef Leathers in St. Joseph, Missouri, is looking for college students ready to explore a career in laboratory analysis to join our family for the summer of 2025 as a Laboratory Intern.  With competitive pay and benefits, stable work, and a caring and supportive environment, National Beef could become your next career move.

 

Our internship program will provide you with a hands-on opportunity to work in a Leather Processing laboratory from start to finish.  You will be introduced to our company culture and work practices and learn how our departments function.

 

This is a paid internship.  Housing allowance is included where required.

 

This is an  on-site position.

 

Program length:  10-12 weeks

Responsibilities

Program highlights and responsibilities for the Laboratory Summer Internship include but are not limited to:

  • Gaining insight into the laboratory, technical analysis, sampling and testing, water treatment, and compliance policies of National Beef Leathers’ facility
  • Assisting in laboratory technical analyses for leather production
  • Sampling and testing materials for process control and quality assurance
  • Learning and understanding the full tanning process
  • Conducting water treatment and testing procedures while monitoring compliance with environmental regulations
  • Analyzing statistical data to identify trends and improve processes
  • Collaborating with the production team on process improvements
  • Maintaining accurate records of laboratory tests and results
  • Supporting the Laboratory Manager in daily operations
  • Following all laboratory safety policies and standard operating procedures at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a safety sensitive position.  This is an on-site position.

Qualifications

Qualified Candidates for the Laboratory Summer Internship position should possess the following:

  • Enrolled and have completed at least three years in an accredited college degree program focusing in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in core curriculum classes

  • Hands on experience with laboratory equipment

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and data interpretation

  • Strong interest in laboratory work and manufacturing processes

  • Willingness to learn about the leather tanning process

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and on-campus involvement

  • Conscientious and responsible demeanor

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting

  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products

  • Availability to work 40 hours per week on-site for the duration of the internship
