Responsibilities

Assistant Controller responsibilities included but are not limited to:

 

This salaried role plays a vital part in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our financial and operational reporting. With minimal supervision, you will assist in the development and implementation of essential accounting processes, guaranteeing compliance with GAAP and internal standards. Your analytical skills and attention to detail will contribute significantly to our operational efficiency and profitability.  This position offices at the Kansas City Distribution Center, 5140 Kansas Ave, Kansas City KS.

  • Collaborate in the review, revision, and implementation of operating procedures for tracking finished goods, storeroom management, and packaging inventory
  • Compile comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly reports on sales and deferred orders, ensuring timely updates of sales-related information across various reports
  • Conduct thorough reviews, reporting, and reconciliations of inventory on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; partner with team members to address and explain variances
  • Update Profit and Loss statements by integrating sales, costs, volume, and variance data to enhance reporting accuracy
  • Develop and maintain processes for sales and cost analysis, facilitating better channel and product profitability insights to support management decisions
  • Assist in the month-end close process, including reconciliations for accounts receivable, banking, and monthly sales payments
  • Prepare miscellaneous schedules for various sales commissions
  • Contribute to the preparation of forecasts, annual budgets, and business plans as assigned
  • Monitor adherence to internal control procedures within the distribution facility; communicate any discrepancies identified during audits and reviews
  • Regularly update schedules for P.O. receipts, purchases of cross-stock materials, bank activity, and sales registers as needed
  • Actively engage with operations and division management to foster collaboration and efficiency
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at process improvement within the distribution and accounting teams
  • Address special projects and ad-hoc requests as needed, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness
  • Uphold all company policies and procedures to maintain a high standard of integrity and professionalism

This is an on-site position.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates for the Assistant Controller position should possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business with a focus on accounting, finance or related
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in an operational environment, preferably within the food or production industry
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • A strong sense of urgency and the capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting
  • Experience with BPCS or ERP systems, particularly in inventory accounting, is preferred
  • Strong work ethic with a commitment to delivering results and meeting critical deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with fluency in English required
  • Travel Requirement: 0 to 5%
  • Supply chain or logistics experience a plus
  • Strong technology/computer system background
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Process management and time management skills
